GEORGE TOWN: Persatuan Melayu Pulau Pinang (Pemenang) and the Pertubuhan Amanah Warisan Pulau Pinang (Pewaris) held a thanksgiving reception in conjunction with the acceptance of their proposal to name the second Penang bridge as “Jambatan Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah” by the Federal Government. The reception was held at Bangunan Pemenang on Jalan Pemenang recently.
Pemenang president Datuk Seri Mohd Yussof Latiff, who is also Pewaris president, gave a detailed history on why the bridge had to be named after the king, especially on the historical and close ties between Penang and Kedah.
A cultural and heritage delegation from Kedah was also invited to the function.
Present were Datuk Azmi Merican, Datuk Abdul Rashid Ismail, Prof Dr Sohaimi Abdul Aziz, Dr Azeem Farizan Ahmad Farouk and Mohd Yamin Md Ali.
Others were Abd Rahman Ahmad, Azizah Md Daud, Prof Datuk Wazir Jehan Karim, Prof Ahmad Merican, Prof Madya Datin Mahani Musam, Datuk Annuar Yusoff and Tahir Jalaludin Md Hussain.
